How a little paint can make a big difference

So I have been wanting to redo our fireplace in the family room ever since we moved in last October.   I  was thinking on adding some nice wood moldings.  I probably won't get to doing that until after Christmas so I did this instead.


I used some dark brown paint to the sides and down below.


I think this is just the pop of color that I needed to tide me over until I come up with a new design.

Here is the before. I had to use the one from the previous owners as I could not find where I had put my picture.


I definitely like the darker color better.  I was going to continue it to the top but thought the bottom would be enough for now.  I also painted the drywall below to tie in with the wood next to it.


I like the little bit of a curve that is next to the fireplace.  Perfect spot for my boxes.
