Friday Favorites

I have been shopping for new Christmas decorations this week and searching Pinterest for color scheme ideas.  I have decided to do red, green, white and gold for my main tree.  Here are some of my favorite pins.

I can't wait to get started.  Since I am hosting Thanksgiving I have to wait to do the family room but I think that I will start decorating my sitting room this weekend.  I am thinking about doing  a woodland theme in there since a wall separates it from the family room.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

This week in Denver we have been having winter weather.  Beginning Monday night it started snowing and yesterday we had a record low.  Today it is a balmy 3 degrees with more snow.  So when I look out the window of the shop I can't help but think of Christmas.  I am sitting at my desk right now looking at the Sam's Club gift catalog and wish that somehow I could have the sleigh and nutcracker they have.  The only problem is how I could sneak them past my husband.  They are both pretty big.  I think that he would notice them and realize they are new.  Yes sometimes I have to sneak things into the house without him knowing and if he says something I always say I have had that for years.

So here is what I wish for this Christmas.  The sleigh measures a whopping 46.5" X 24" X 23.25".

Now for the nutcracker.  I would like to have two of these.  He is only 6 feet tall.

I just don't think I could get these past him.  He always says that I have too much stuff.  I don't agree with him.  I always say there is room for more.

Best of Fall

As I look out the window of our shop it seems that Fall is pretty much over here in Colorado. I see lots of bare trees and the sky is gray.  This week we are going to have winter weather so I thought I would post the best of my Fall decor this season.

I have started planning my Christmas decor but I don't put it up until after Thanksgiving since the family will be at my house and I want everyone to see the Fall decor.  I have about four to five different ideas and need to decide which rooms they will go in.  I also need to start planning the front porch.  I think that it will go plaid.

Thanksgiving in the kitchen

I thought that I would just change out the centerpiece on my kitchen table by adding my ceramic turkey.  Here is how it turned out.

Soon this kitchen will be filled with smells of turkey and pumpkin spice.  We always have Thanksgiving at our house and Christmas at my sister in laws house.  I still have lots to do before my house is ready for guests.

Shower enclosure is installed (finally)

Yeah!  I finally have my shower enclosure installed.  I have been waiting for this day since July when we tore down the old one. When I first saw it I thought wow it's tall.  I guess I just got used to not having anything there for so long it seemed out of place. Last night I walked by it and thought that I might run in to it since I am not used to having glass right there.  We can't use it until Sunday so one more day of walking down to the basement to take a shower.

Let's look back and see what we had here before.

I am so glad this is gone. Now my bathroom has caught up with this century.  Seeing this bathroom before you would have never guessed that it was built in 2001.

Now if I can just get my hubby to build those shelves I can get it all decorated.  I am still waiting on the curtain rod for the bay window.  I had to order it so I might have to wait a couple of weeks.  I decided to take everyone's advise and  use valances for the window treatment.  The only reason I was thinking of panels is because my hubby didn't care for how the tile work turned out next to the windows and I suggested covering it up with panels.  So I will just use some of my decorative pieces instead.

Master bathroom shower update

So here is what has been happening with our shower.  We have been waiting a month now to get the enclosure done.  When we chose the company to do this they told us that it would be 7-10 days to get the glass.  Well after about one week they called and said they needed to measure again as they got one measurement wrong.  So they came out and measured again.  Another week went by with no word so my hubby called to find out what was going on and they said they would find out and call back.  That never happened.  So we waited a few days and he called them back.  We got the same answer with a personal guarantee that she would call back that day.  Still nothing.  So yesterday I called since it had been another week with no one calling us back and was told it was in and she would put us on the schedule.  Well I thought to myself yeah she will probably say that it will be about three weeks ore so since they are booked up.  But to my surprise she said they could do it this Friday. Well needless to say I will not hold my breath since they have cancelled on us before when they were coming out to give us an estimate.  So I am praying that this will all work out and we will finally be done with this shower on Friday.  So here is what the shower looks like right now.  When the glass gets installed I will post the pictures.

Once this is done all we have left to do is build and install the shelves above the cabinet, buy and hang the valances and decorate.  I am not sure when the shelves will be done since my hubby is doing that and he tends to put things off for awhile.  I would still like to have the whole bathroom done by Thanksgiving.

On a different note,  yesterday I noticed that the hot water in the shower wasn't that hot.  We have two hot water heaters so my hubby checked them out and one of them had the pilot light out.  He tried several times but it would not light so now we have to get a new water heater.  It seems like something always goes wrong around here.

Front door update

Since I finally got the kitchen door done I just had to do the front door.  It has been waiting for a new curtain pretty much since we moved in over two years ago.  I had this left over material from curtains in a previous house that coordinated with the rug in front of the door.  So since I had to stay home and wait for the security alarm guy I thought I would be productive and finally make the curtain.

As I have always said I am not that good at sewing but I thought that it turned out pretty good.  Now I will warn you now that the next pictures are not pretty.  Well maybe pretty scary.

Yes that is what I have been living with for two years now.  Even my hubby has bugged me about  redoing it.  Normally he doesn't care about curtains.  I would like to get a new front door but we probably have to get it approved by the HOA and since we will likely be moving within the next few years (if we follow our track record with homes) why bother.  Now all I have left is the basement door.  I will probably do it this weekend.

Formal Living Room Part 1

I am excited that I have finally got one side of my formal living room done (except for a few touches like curtain panels, etc.). I hav...
