My Dining Room

I haven't had time to post lately as our little Toby dog had to be put down on August 1st. I didn't feel like doing too much to the house. And of course my husband just had to get a new dog and it is a puppy. He takes us much of my time has he is all over the house. I did manage to finally get my dining room in order yesterday. I had been using it for painting the kitchen cabinets. Here are a few pictures. We replaced the light, had a wall added between the living and dining room and I painted it a warm yellow. Wouldn't you know it that as soon as I get it cleaned up and decorated it is almost time to decorate for Fall.

I haven't figured out what else I want to do with the shelf on the hutch but I did get the top of it decorated.

I still need to finish below the buffet but here is what the top looks like.

My husband talked me into putting a mural on the other wall of the room. I had the furniture there first and he didn't like it. We had the wall put in when we moved in. It was open to the living room on the other side. It has now become his office.

Here is a picture of my table. I went to Pier 1 yesterday and purchased the place mats, napkins and napkin rings. I also get the candle holders and candles there also. I got the plate at Marshall's. Thinking ahead for Fall.

The last thing I need to do is make the panels for the windows. Here is the material that I bought. I actually is a much darker red than it shows in the picture.

Right now I am still working on decorating my kitchen, half way done with the guest bathroom and I still need to decorate the bookshelves in the library across from the dining room.

Mini back splash reveal

We finally got the back splash done in the kitchen. Here are a few pictures of the steps to get to the finished project. I just need to do a little caulking and then I will post the finished pictures.

Here is step one. First we started with subway travertine tiles.

Step two was adding the accent border and the side border

Step three was adding the 4 X 4 tiles on a diagonal with glass mosiac accent pieces.

Step four was adding the grout and we changed out the switches and outlets to brown to match better.

Nest time I will get the whole kitchen pictures posted.

Laundry room redo

I finally got most of my laundry room done. All I need to do is finish the bench and shelf area. Here are a few photos of what I did. The room was painted a beige color like the rest of the house. I choose a color called warm muffin. Once I painted the room I noticed that the doors and trim needed painted also. The cabinets were a medium oak color so I refinished them and added new hardware. We added a new light, new counter top and a new faucet. My hubby made the shelves above the sink and dryer for me.

This is the last area that I need to finish. I love this shelf, it opens out for drying clothes. I painted the bench. It has been in my family every since I can remember. It was the same color as the original cabinets. I am wanting to put some pillows on the bench and dress up the shelf. Any ideas?

Semi finished kitchen

Here are a few pictures of my kitchen so far. I finally got all of the cabinets refinished and the granite counter tops are installed. Now all we need to get done is the backsplash.

Here is the before picture when we bought the house.

We put in stainless appliances, added a new light above table, made new cornice boards above windows, added shelves to the island and got a pot rack. I still need to make a tablecloth to match and make a curtain for the window on the back door.

I tried to get as many shots as possible without getting the living room furniture in the way.

I love my new fridge with the double freezer drawers.

The corner unit had a microwave oven combo and we put in a double oven instead. I don't use the microwave that much so I bought a small one to sit on the counter top.

I stood on the coffee table in the living room to try and get a better shot of the island to show off the shelves. Now I have somewhere to put my cookbooks.

I painted the butler pantry the same as the island since it is off of the kitchen.

Here is a closeup of the granite that we choose. It is called Colonial Gold.

This is the breakfast nook area with the new light that my wonderful husband installed. Once we get the back splash done I will be posting the final pictures with everything decorated.

A few of my favorite things......

Well. we got our granite counter tops installed on Friday and I am still refinishing the cabinets. Once that is done we will be installing our tile backsplash. Once the cabinets are done I will post a photo before we install the backsplash. For now I wanted to share some of my photos that I took at our previous house.

Most of these pictures will be of fall as it is my favorite season. This is the wheel barrow that I decorate for the front porch.

Ready for granite

We are finally getting granite countertops in the kitchen. Yesterday we went and picked out the granite. Tomorrow they will be coming the make the template and hopefully they will be installed by friday. Here are a few pictures of the kitchen right now. Who knew that only one row of tiles would be so hard to remove. It was like they used super glue.

Please excuse the mess. I had to move everything from the countertops to the kitchen table.

Here is a close up of the desk area. As soon as the countertops are installed I will be refinishing the cabinets with the Rusoleum kit that I got at Home Depot. I already refinished the island and the butler pantry a dark brown. The rest of the cabinets are going to be off white with a brown glaze.

Here is the butler pantry with the refinished cabinets. Now all it needs is the new countertop and backsplash. My husband and I will be installing the backsplash here and in the kitchen. I will be posting more pictures as we progress.

Here are a few items that I bought at Hobby Lobby and Goodwill today.

Here is everything that I got at Hobby Lobby today. Everything was 80% off. I paid $144.00 for all of this.
