Spring decor past

I am ready for Spring decorating and then I am not.  I feel like I want to decorate but I am not coming up with any new ideas yet.  Maybe it is because my house is a disaster area right now with getting the new furniture and not totally organized yet.  I can't even step into my craft room without hitting obstacles.  It is full of Christmas decor that I haven't organized and put away.  That needs to be done before I can get out the Spring decor.  So for now I am going back and looking at my past Spring decorating to inspire me.

I always seem to use this little dog and the galvanized boots on the front porch.  Maybe I need to try something different.

With all this warm weather we have been having I feel like getting out and decorating the porch a little bit but snow is in the forecast for tomorrow.  It shouldn't stick around too long since we will be getting back up in the 60's for the weekend.  We have had one mild winter here in Colorado this season.  I am even starting to see my backyard again (which normally doesn't happen until around April).

New living room furniture has arrived

We finally had our new living room furniture delivered yesterday.  The minute I got home from work I starting arranging the furniture.  It only took me six times of furniture moving and two hours to end of with arrangement.  It's not the best but it works for the space.  We have a strange living room set up.  You have to have a walking path around the whole living room.  You can't put any furniture along the wall of windows as you need to be able to get the master bedroom.

Now I haven't done any decorating yet so this is basically bare bones.  I had to got out and buy new end tables as the old ones were too big and didn't go with the new furniture.  I am still keeping the old tables since they have a rustic country look.  We put them in the basement storage room for now.

Of course there is still the matter of the elephant in the room.  The red floral curtains have to go.

I ended of buying one of the round and two of the rectangular tables.  I think that I might get one more of the rectangular tables.  The coffee table that goes with the set is round and about 48 inches in diameter so it will not fit in front of the loveseat.   I might have to dig out one of our rugs so it doesn't look so bare. I love the details on the round end table.  The tops of the tables are wood and the legs are metal.

I probably won't work on the living room anymore today as I need to get the rest of the house in order.   The hubby wants to try and sell the old furniture on Craigslist.  I hope this doesn't take too long since it is sitting in the dining room.  We had to move the table to the other end to get it all to fit.

I need it out of here soon as Spring decorating is nearing. and it feels like we just moved in.  I will be sharing the finished living room once I get all the decorating done.  Right now I need to straighten up the sitting room as we removed the loveseat and I put one of the chairs and ottomans in there.  It looks like a bomb went off in there.  That is one picture I do not want to share.

Who remembers this

I just started watching the Mary Tyler Moore show again.  I remember watching this when I was little.  I just love the windows with the balcony outside.I love the apartment that she had in the beginning of the series of course minus the shag carpet.  I could see myself living there if I was single.  Who really needs that much room.   I just love the windows with the balcony outside.  Now I see why Rhoda wanted this apartment so bad in the first episode.  I found these photos on google. Did you know that the man on the right of the picture was Valerie Harpers husband at the time?

And this kitchen is so cute.  When you're single you don't need much room for cooking.

I found this great outside picture at night.  It looks like it is decorated for Christmas.  Now this is my type of house.

New furniture update

Yea, my new furniture is finally going to be delivered Saturday.  I have been waiting so long that I almost forgot about it.  Tonight we have to move all the old furniture into the dining room so that I can clean the carpet before it arrives.  Now I am going to have to search for some new curtains that will go with the furniture.

We are getting three of the chairs and the ottomans.  One set will be going in my sitting room that is on the other side of the living room.  I am not so sure if they will go with my end tables and coffee table as they are more rustic and have square legs.

Isn't it romantic

I thought that I would get my romantic Valentine's Day tablescape by the fireplace done today.  I went very simple with this by not using any centerpiece.  I think that the fireplace serves that purpose well.

I only used red, white and gold for this tablescape.  I know that the leaf tablecloth doesn't scream Valentine but it is the only tablecloth that I have in this color.  I have been meaning to get a plain one.

So this Valentine's Day we will be staying home and having fondue by the fireplace.  Of course the table stay like this since I need room for the fondue pot.  I didn't think it would look good in the pictures so I didn't make room for it.  It's amazing what you can get done at 7:00 AM.

Spring Fever

Boy do I have Spring Fever.  This morning I woke up to snow.  Not much but just enough to cover the roads.  It has quit snowing and the roads are clear now but the sky is gray.  Days like this I sit in my office with nothing to do but look at snow, bare trees and traffic driving by.  Luckily I have my new Pier 1 catalog to look at and perk me up a bit. 

I just had to go there yesterday and by some new items for Spring.  I got the two different garden tins, the urn and some of the hydrangeas.  I also had to get some of their new bunnies.  Boy I sure do have a hard time getting out of there without buying something.  Just look at this adorable bunny that I got.

The two pictures above are from the Pier 1 website.  I thought that he would go well with the new bunny plates that I got.  He sure looks like a combo of these two.  I can't wait to get started on the Spring decor.

Bookcases and napkin storage

This weekend I decided to go ahead and redo the bookcases in the living room.  I was going to wait until after the new furniture was delivered but that probably won't be for a few more weeks.  I want to apologize ahead of time for the quality of the photos.  This room is at the back of the house which faces North and the wall of windows for this room has the covered deck on the other side so we don't get much light in this room.  Please excuse all the shadows.  This is the before picture.

I kept a few of the same items and added some from the bookcases in the sitting room.  This is my no cost makeover.  First I started by taking everything down except for the books.  I decided to keep them the way they are.

Now the after pictures and sorry for all the shadows as I had to take these pictures at night with all the lights on.

It is not easy to decorate around electronic components.  They have to be on the shelves in order to use them.

Once the room has the new furniture I will retake the pictures and hopefully they will look better.

Now onto the napkin storage.  A couple of weekends ago I washed and ironed over 100 napkins and found them a new home.  The bookcases in the living room has three large drawers so I used the middle drawer underneath the television to store the napkins.  I thought that rolling them up instead of folding would be better and it is working so far.

Yes, all of the napkins fit.  They are in layers so it doesn't look like many but trust me they are there.  I was able to get three layers in here.  This is the perfect spot for them since it is the same distance from the dining room and the kitchen where I use them.  Now all I have left is to find the perfect home for the tablecloths.
