Since I finally got the kitchen door done I just had to do the front door. It has been waiting for a new curtain pretty much since we moved in over two years ago. I had this left over material from curtains in a previous house that coordinated with the rug in front of the door. So since I had to stay home and wait for the security alarm guy I thought I would be productive and finally make the curtain.
As I have always said I am not that good at sewing but I thought that it turned out pretty good. Now I will warn you now that the next pictures are not pretty. Well maybe pretty scary.
Yes that is what I have been living with for two years now. Even my hubby has bugged me about redoing it. Normally he doesn't care about curtains. I would like to get a new front door but we probably have to get it approved by the HOA and since we will likely be moving within the next few years (if we follow our track record with homes) why bother. Now all I have left is the basement door. I will probably do it this weekend.

Kitchen door update
For over a year now I have not sewn the curtain for my kitchen door. I am not that good at sewing so I guess I am lucky that I can at least sew a straight line and that's all I needed for this door.
Today when I started this project anything that could go wrong did. It all started with me not being able to find the power cord to my sewing machine. We have lived here over two years and this is the first time I used the sewing machine. I looked in the sewing table and the dresser that I use to hold supplies but could not find it. I finally found it on the bookshelf in the exercise room. How it got there I don't know. The next thing to happen was my hubby installed the top curtain rod and when he tried to open the door the finial hit the cornice board and the door would not open all the way. So needless to say I had to run to Wal-Mart and get a different set. The other finials were much more ornate than the new ones. At least I was able to get it sewn without having to pull out the stitches and start all over. Yes that has happened to me before a few times. So here it is.
It's not the prettiest thing I have ever done but it served its purpose. You know, like when you want to get a cookie in the middle of the night and you are naked. Oh yes, the neighborhood behind our house can see into this door at night when the light is on. Ok, so now on to the ugly part. I am really embarrassed to show the before picture but here it goes. Please don't laugh.
Yes it was tacked on at the top of the door with thumbtacks. What can I say. I needed a quick remedy at the time and I really don't like to sew. I still need to make one for the front door and the basement door before company comes for Thanksgiving. And yes those are jerry-rigged also. Like I said I really don't like to sew and I seem to put things off for a long time when it comes to sewing. Just like when I bought material for the dining room curtains right after we moved in two years ago and it is still in my craft room closet. I plan on doing those this winter along with many other projects (hopefully).

Thanksgiving dining room table
I decided that I would pretty much leave the table the way it is except for a few minor tweaks. I changed out the centerpiece, removed some of the pumpkin soup bowls and changed out the salad plates. So here is the results.
Now for a close up of the centerpiece.
I love my brass turkeys. I got them at Cost Plus World Market many years ago. They open in the back so you can put a votive candle in. They look wonderful with the lights out.
So I just changed out the salad plates. I have these plates that say "thankful" which is perfect for Thanksgiving.
It is a little hard to read so here is a close up.
So now my table is ready when everyone comes on Thanksgiving. Now onto redoing the kitchen table.

Goodbye October
I can't believe how fast this year has gone by. It seems that the older I get the faster it goes. Pretty soon it will be snowing here in Colorado. Rain is in the forecast for Monday here in the metro area and snow for the mountains. This weekend will be nice though in the low 70's and upper 60's.
Last night we didn't get enough trick or treaters to get rid of all the candy. Last year we ran out so I bought extra this year. I guess that wasn't a good idea. Now I will be tempted to eat it. myself. I have this big ceramic jack o lantern that I like to set out on Halloween night so this year I decided to get a picture of it.
I have a busy weekend planned. I got lots of stuff to get done around this house besides cleaning and laundry. My weekend doesn't officially start until after 2:00 pm today when we close the shop so I got to make the most of it. Wishing everyone a great weekend!

Top 3 for October
Today I thought I would share my top 3 post for the month of October. My dining room was the number one post this month. I love my Tuscan mural as a backdrop for Fall decor. It also works well for Spring but not that great for Christmas.
The second most popular post was my outdoor decor. I love the way my wheel barrow turned out and so did the pesky squirrels. They made holes in all my pumpkins and spread the seeds all over the place.
The third most popular post was my fall front porch. Even though I posted this toward the end of September it still is being viewed and is my most all time popular post.
This weekend the weather is going to be in the 70's but we will be getting more winter type weather on Monday with the high being 48 degrees. I will be working on the dining room and kitchen tables getting them ready for Thanksgiving and planning my Christmas decor. I have to wait until after Thanksgiving to decorate since we have everyone over to our house so I will be busy that weekend.

O Christmas Tree
Yes I am already thinking of how I am going to decorate my tree this year. For the past 5 years I have decorated the tree with bronze and gold with lots of sparkles. I am thinking that I might do a woodland tree or an elegant tree this year. When I was growing up my mother always alternated the tree every year. She would do the tree in all red lights, bows and ornaments one year and the next year it would be multiple colored lights and ornaments. We don't have much room in this house so our tree is skinny. Here is how my tree has been looking these past years.
I wish my tree would look more like these pictures that I found on Pinterest.
It's not easy to make a skinny tree look full. I think that I will have to go to Hobby Lobby and see what ornaments they have to help me decide.

Fun with plaid
Today I thought I would have some fun and pull out my Fall plaid blankets. I only have three right now but plan on adding some more. They look great on my hall tree. I added a scarf, hat and some boots to the hall tree also. Everything you need to take a walk among the leaves in the glorious Fall weather. Of course today it is pretty warm but starting tomorrow we will be having 60 something degree weather for the week. Next weekend I will be changing out the dining room and kitchen centerpieces for Thanksgiving. Be sure to check back.
